DVD player stops playing about half way through the movie

I have a 9300 gateway laptop with a DVD/CD player. It plays CD's to the
end, but stops about half way through when playing a DVD. I believe it is a
Toshiba model. It is about 4 years old. I have tried to blow in the
opening slot and I have tried several DVDs.
Anybody have any idea how to solve this problem?
Are there two sensors in the unit, one for DVD and one for CD?
TIA

Do you see the problem on a DVD-9 and a DVD-5 disk?

I would assume that a DVD-9 disk might have first 1/2 the film on the
first track set and the second 1/2 on the offset tracks (I think DVD-9
is like having two DVD's squashed together with a slight track offset)
Might be that your player is failing to read the second set of tracks
Just a guess

A DVD-9 is a dual-layer disc, requiring the laser to re-focus for the
second part. Perhaps this is where his player dies.

I would assume that if this is the problem, it would be necessary to have
the DVD player repaired!
Thanks

Well Delbert it is a 4year old dvd rom drive in a laptop. Repairing is
problably not as easy or as affordable as looking at the gateway site for a
new one from their spare parts section. Most of those are pretty much
unrepairable anyway, just replaceable if the replacements parts still exist.
