I finally found a DVD Player with good sound quality

I have an old Sony DVP NS735D DVD player which has great sound
quality.
I wanted to replace this DVD player with another player with similar
quality sound.
I started with the Sony DVP NS575 DVD player and find it had basic
sound quality.
I then tried the Sony DVP-NS780V DVD player and find it was closer to
the sound quality of my old Sony DVD player.
I now am trying the Sony DVP NS955 and found that the sound quality is
better than my old Sony player. It's a pleasure to listen to my audio
CD's and music DVD's with this player that has good quality
components. It also plays SA-CD in good quality.
The reason I want to replace my old Sony DVD player is that it is
limited to the type of discs it can play and it won't play mp3 files.

If anyone wants information on any of these DVD players then feel free
to ask me any questions.

Can't say im surprised. they have a 1-2 year lifespan at most. your
really lucky if one lasts longer. in that case it must not be used much.

Maybe the recent DVD players have a short lifespan, especially the
cheaper DVD players.
It's would cost me 1/5th the price of the DVD player to extend the
Guarantee to 5 years. At the moment it has a 1 year Guarantee that
covers parts and labour.
I'm not certain if I need the extented guarantee as it's a high
quality product so parts should not break down.

any dvd player with a digital audio out (coax or fiber), played into a
decent a/v receiver with digital input, will give you the best quality
audio available on the dvd itself. there is really excellent audio
coming out of the digital outputs on the el cheapo $30 players.

put your money in the a/v receiver and speakers, and get the cheapest
digital audio output source you can find. the a/v receiver's useful
life will far exceed the useful life of the dvd player.

Thanks Arthur for your comments, but after listening to the great
sound quality of the Sony QS model (DVP-NS955) there's is no way that
I'd go back to a cheaper DVD player with standard sound. My daughter
also noticed the difference in sound quality.

the sound quality of the el cheapos is just as good if taken out as
direct digital - never processed by their inferior d/a circuitry.
the important things are twofold:

1) minimizing the number of d/a and a/d conversions between dvd and
speakers: optimal is one - usually there may be more.

2) the quality of the d/a converter in that one conversion. the
quality in a/v receivers is at least as good as that in the best dvd
players, and will still be there after a dvd-player has been junked
for other reasons. and when we go to the next level of
hd-dvd-players, you will be junking your current dvd player anyway.
this comes in a year or so.

Hi Arthur.
My DVD player is connected to a good quality Amplifier by a optical
connection, which I'll be changing to co-axial as there is less
circuits to process the signal.
Other factors come into sound quality such as the accuracy of the
laser, the quality of the mechanism that spins the disc, gold sockets
to reduce noise, good quality circuit components in the sound
processing circuit.
It has built in options even when it's connected to an amplifier using
optical or co-axial cable such as a option to have sharp or slow
sound, in the slow mode (not certain why they call it slow) any very
sharp pitched sounds are reduced. There an option to turn off the
video circuit and also turn off the front display, to reduce any noise
getting into the signal when listening to music.

Maybe when blue wave technology comes then the CD/DVD player's of
today may be history. Also we might be buying something that looks
like a pen drive and plugging it into the player rather than using
CD's. But then audio CD's have been around for a long time and they
are still selling many of them. I noticed that HiFi cassette players
seem to be disappearing.
It all be interesting to see if SA-CD will become popular.
My new DVD player supports SA-CD disks and DivX files.

Regards Brian
